Ruby Gadsby
Assistant Facilitator & Marketing Assistant
Ruby Gadsby joined Confidance in 2021 as an assistant facilitator, and has since developed her role managing the Confidance social media platforms and marketing. Ruby works closely with Jo and Grace to deliver dance work in schools, community settings and is a dancer in ConfiCo.
Ruby is originally from Kent, where she was part of Leo Dance Company, Confidance’s first integrated, intergenerational dance company that aimed to promote an unprejudiced society through performance. This sparked her interest in choreography and inclusivity in dance. Ruby earned her BA (Hons) in Choreography at Middlesex University; she collaborated with multiple art forms including music, fine art, architecture, animation and film. She realised her love for film and framing the moving body, which led her to undertake an MA in Screendance at London Contemporary Dance School. During her MA, Ruby, curated for and lead marketing on Frame Rush Screendance Festival, choreographed for resolution festival and carried through her love for dance and inclusive practice. In 2020, commissioned by Sussex Dance Network, Ruby co-directed and edited the film ‘Climate’ an intergenerational project that saw 12 strangers connect from their own homes during lockdown to explore the impact of climate change. She continues to work towards using movement and the screen to help make dance more accessible to wider audiences and to give more opportunities for marginalised groups to have a platform.
